Sinus Lift
Sinus lift is a dental procedure that enhances the bone height to the upper jaw in the space between the area of molars and premolars. It is also called Sinus Augmentation. It is the space between your jaw and the maxillary sinuses in either side of the nose. The sinus membrane needs to be lifted upwards to make space and is usually performed under twilight anesthesia. The sinus lift surgery includes the below steps - The gum tissue where the back teeth used to be is cut open. The gum tissue is raised exposing the bone and a small cut is .ade in the bone. Bone piece is lifted into sinus cavity space and the hole is filled with bone graft. Once the space is filled, the incision is closed with sutures and the healing begins. After the surgery, there might be little swelling, some bleeding from nose or mouth. The sinus lift surgery has many alternatives like basal implants, zygomatic implants helps in restoring the upper jaw with permanent dental bridge and implants.

Implants Without Bone Grafts
If you have any missing or damaged bone in your jaw, then bone grafting is a best suitable option. Bone graft repairs and rebuilds the damaged bone that is needed to support the dental implants. Without bone grafting, the surrounding teeth might become loose resulting in loss of teeth and healthy bone regeneration. If there is a teeth loss and is left untreated for a long time, bone grafting is needed to replace the missing teeth with bone mass. Performing dental implants without bone grafting can reduce the cost of the treatment as there is less cost, people and procedure involved which is why the timeline for the surgery is reduced. It also reduces the risk , pain and infections post the surgery. Bone grafting is required when there is not enough bone volume for an implant, at the time of extraction of the teeth or when more than two teeth are removed and several implants are placed. However, bone grafting is an expensive and nonessential procedure. Today with successful basal implants and pterygoid implants the bone augmentation is extinct. It is not only enough for immediate loading but also for the implant placement.

Soft Tissue Grafts
Soft tissue grafting is a procedure that intends to recreate the gum line and prevent further damage of the gums. It enhances the facial appearance and your smile. The soft tissue grafting is used to cover the roots or develop gum tissue. The main reason for gum recession is exposed roots. Aggressive brushing, grinding your teeth or inflammation from plague along the gum line may contribute to this condition. The gum tissue is taken from your palate during this procedure. Before the treatment, the periodontics identifies the factors that contribute to these recessions and controls in order to repair the defect and prevent additional recession. The tissue is removed with less postOperative discomfort and sometimes the tissues are taken from the tissue bank. This is to eradicate the disease transmission. It is secured over the exposed root and underneath the gum tissue in the damaged area. There are commonly three types of soft tissue grafting - Free gingival graft, connective tissue graft, pedicle graft.

Platelet Rich Fibrin
PRF also known as platelet rich fibrin is a new biomaterial like autologous cicatricial matrix, simply centrifuged blood without any addition. PRF is made up of fibrin matrix polymerized in a tetra molecular structure with the incorporation of leucocytes, platelets, circulating stem cells and cytokines. Prf is used in the form of platelets to promote wound healing, bone growth and maturation, wound sealing to impart better handling properties to graft materials. The advantages of PRF are-

  • The presence of natural fibrin in PRF protects the growth factors from proteolysis.
  • The presence of monocytes, leukocytes and other white cells play an important role during the inflammatory process of healing.
  • PRF manufacturing requires minimum time

PRF is used in invasive surgery that is close to the ear, eyes, brain and also in direct contact with bones, nerves, maxillary sinuses that could be affected adversely if proper contamination control protocols are neglected.
